Mt. Juliet Police Stop Vending Machine Burglars’ Crime Spree

Case: 12-28093

Date: May 11th, 2012

 Time: 8:00AM

Location: 5001 Crossings Circle (Hampton Inn)

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – The Mt. Juliet Police Department has apprehended two burglars that have been targeting hotel vending machines throughout three Middle Tennessee counties over the past two months. This morning in Mt. Juliet, a Hampton Inn employee spotted one of the suspects attempting to break-in to a vending machine inside the hotel and called police. When police arrived on the scene they spotted one suspect attempting to flee on foot and found another waiting in the getaway vehicle. Both were quickly apprehended by responding officers.

On May 11th, 2012, around 8:00 a.m., Mt. Juliet Police Dispatch received a call from an employee at Hampton Inn in reference to someone actively breaking-in their soda machine. Prior to police arrival, the suspect, later identified as William Dangerfield, 29 of Lavergne, Tenn., noticed that the employee witnessed him committing the crime and ran from the hotel. Responding Mt. Juliet Police Officers were able to spot the suspect matching the hotel employee’s description running away from the hotel through an adjacent parking lot where he was taken into custody. Police then located a second suspect, identified as Nathan McEwen, 28 of Hohenwald, Tenn., sitting in their getaway vehicle parked at Hampton Inn where he apprehended.

Investigators strongly believe that Dangerfield and McEwen have been working together over the past two months to commit similar crimes in Metro-Nashville Davidson, Rutherford, and Wilson counties. Mt. Juliet has had three similar crimes that the two are suspects in. They were arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail.
