Quick Responding Police Officers Apprehend Shoplifter, Recover Over $500 in Stolen Merchandise

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – A man is in-custody for shoplifting over $500.00 from Gander Mountain after retail staff witnessed him cutting open packages and hiding merchandise under his clothing. When officers were summoned to Gander Mountain on Monday, January 25, 2016 around 3:45 p.m. they quickly stopped the suspected thief as he was attempting to leave in his car. All the stolen merchandise from Gander Mountain was recovered.

As officers searched the suspect, identified as James Woodard, Jr, 51, of Lebanon, multiple knives were located. Many of the knives were just stolen from Gander Mountain. Retail staff notified police after they watched Woodard quickly opening packages, removing the knife, and hiding the knife on his person. $527.91 of stolen merchandise was recovered off Woodard. In addition, Woodard was in possession of a pill bottle containing different types of pills.

Woodard was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail, charged with Theft of Merchandise, Simple Possession of a Schedule II Drug, and 3 counts of Possession of a Legend Drug.
