Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – Detectives successfully identified a wanted felon on the run who attempted to rob a person in the Walmart parking lot today. Following an anonymous tip, detectives quickly worked to obtain a positive identification of the suspect, identified as James W. Gray, 24, of Florida and formerly of Mt. Juliet. Gray is on the run and wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for a federal probation violation, issued on February 9, 2016, stemming from charges related to an armed bank robbery he committed in Florida.

Around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, officers were summoned to Walmart, located at 300 Pleasant Grove Road, in reference to an attempted armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot 10 minutes prior to police being notified. The victim did not comply, and Gray fled the parking lot in a maroon 2008 Mercy Grand Marquis. The vehicle used by Gray matches the description of a vehicle that was stolen from the Mt. Juliet Bar-b-cutie parking lot on February 13, 2016 after the owner left the keys in the car.
Anonymous information led detectives to the successful identification of Gray. In addition to the warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service, Gray is wanted for Robbery, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Gray has violent tendencies and is possibly armed.
