Vigilant Officer Spots Shoplifting Suspect Leaving Mall in Car, Stop Leads to Felony Drug Charges and Handgun

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – An officer responding to a shoplifting call, found heroin, marijuana, and a handgun after he spotted the suspect leaving the mall in a car. During the early afternoon of Sunday, February 28, 2016, staff at Academy Sports & Outdoors, located at 549 Pleasant Grove Road, called Mt. Juliet Police to report a shoplifter that was running away from the store with stolen clothing in a backpack. Officers immediately responded to the area and began to search for the suspect. Responding officers were updated that the suspect got into a car, which was spotted and stopped by a vigilant officer searching the area.

Officers located the suspect, identified as Michael Young, 30, of Hermitage, in the backseat of a Nissan hatchback during the stop. Further investigation, also revealed that a front passenger, identified as Alisha Migliaccio, 23, of Hermitage, was in possession of illegal drugs and a handgun. Officers located a baggy of heroin, two baggies of marijuana, digital scales, metal spoons, hypodermic needles, a glass pipe, many plastic baggies, and a .25 caliber handgun.

One other individual was in the Nissan during the stop, but they were not charged with a crime. Approximately $119.00 of stolen clothing was returned to Academy Sports & Outdoors.

Young was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail, charged with Theft of Merchandise – Shoplifting.

Migliaccio was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail, charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of a Schedule I Drug with Intent for Resale, Unlawful Possession of a Schedule VI Drug with Intent for Resale, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.
