Vigilant Citizen & Quick Response by Officer Leads to Arrest of Car Burglar

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – After burglarizing two cars in a parking lot, an alleged burglar was apprehended by a quick responding officer after a vigilant citizen kept watch on the thief’s location. On Sunday, September 24, 2017 around 10:30 a.m., the suspect was spotted by a citizen as he entered unlocked vehicles in the parking lot of Academy Sports, at 549 Pleasant Grove Road. The citizen kept an eye on the suspect as he checked for unlocked cars in the parking lot, and the citizen continued to update the communications center on the suspect’s whereabouts. An officer patrolling the area nearby caught up to the suspect, 18-year-old Estifanos Kumssa of Antioch, in the parking lot.

Further investigation revealed that Kumssa entered two unlocked vehicles in the store parking lot, and he had stolen sunglasses from one of those vehicles in his possession. In addition, officers found marijuana and illegal drug paraphernalia inside Kumssa’s car.

Kumssa was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail under a $12,000 bond, charged with 2 counts of Burglary, Theft of Property, Simple Possession of a Schedule VI drug, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
