Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – As the holiday shopping season kicks off, the Department has launched its annual retail safety initiative, Operation Safe Shopper, to enhance public safety and deter crime throughout the busiest shopping period of the year.
Now underway and running through the New Year, the initiative brings increased patrols and undercover operations to Mt. Juliet’s popular Interstate 40 shopping corridor. Officers, both uniformed and in plainclothes, will provide extra attention to retail areas, reinforcing the department’s strong commitment to keeping shopping areas safe.
Mt. Juliet continues to face challenges from outside criminal influences. Most offenders arrested are not local residents. In response, Operation Safe Shopper uses a multi-layered approach that includes enhanced police visibility, undercover operations, and advanced technology to deter crime and protect both residents and visitors.
Key Components of Operation Safe Shopper:
-
Increased Patrols: Officers maintain a strong, visible presence in shopping centers.
-
Zero-Tolerance Policy: Shoplifters face immediate arrest and booking.
-
Mobile Surveillance Towers: Strategically placed in parking lots for added security.
-
Undercover Operations: Plainclothes officers monitor crowds and respond to suspicious activity.
-
Guardian Shield Technology: License Plate Reader tools identify stolen vehicles, stolen plates, and wanted individuals.
