Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – The Mt. Juliet Police Department is proud to announce that Sergeant Justin Angle has been named this year’s recipient of the 2024 Sgt. Jerry Mundy Employee of the Year Award, the department’s most prestigious honor.

The award, named in memory of Sgt. Jerry Mundy, reflects the principles of compassion, dedication, and camaraderie that Sgt. Mundy embodied throughout his service. Chief Michael Mullins, during the award presentation alongside Trish Mundy, highlighted how Sgt. Angle upholds and exemplifies these values in his daily work:
“This award is named in honor of Sgt. Jerry Mundy, a person whose legacy was built on the care we give to the citizens we serve, the love we have for our fellow coworkers, and the positive, encouraging attitude we bring to our work every day. This year’s recipient, Sergeant Justin Angle, embodies these qualities in everything he does, making him truly deserving of this recognition.”
Chief Mullins also shared a personal story about Sgt. Mundy, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to both his colleagues and the community.
“Jerry was more than a ‘Cop’s Cop,’” Chief Mullins said. “He was the kind of person who would go out of his way to help others, both on and off duty. I’ll never forget how he came to my house to help me install a storm door and refused to accept a single dollar in return. He always had my back, and from that moment, I would have run through a wall for him.”
In reflecting on Sgt. Angle’s leadership, Chief Mullins recounted a recent conversation with another officer:

“I asked what shift he was hoping for, and he simply said, ‘Whatever shift Sgt. Angle gets is where I want to be. I’d run through a wall for him.’ That kind of dedication and trust speaks volumes about the leader Sgt. Angle is.”
Since joining the department, Sgt. Angle has demonstrated unwavering commitment to public service and to fostering positive relationships within the department and the community. His colleagues consistently praise his kindness, supportive nature, and ability to inspire those around him.
“Sgt. Angle’s positive and encouraging attitude has made a significant difference in the lives of so many people, from citizens seeking help in their time of need to officers who have found guidance and support in him,” Chief Mullins said. “His integrity, humility, and commitment to our mission make Mt. Juliet safer and stronger.”
The Mt. Juliet Police Department congratulates Sgt. Justin Angle on this well-deserved honor and thanks him for his outstanding service and dedication.
