Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – Police officers will be parking their patrol cars Thursday evening to give less-fortunate children a Christmas shopping spree to remember. The Mt. Juliet Police Department is sponsoring over 30 less-fortunate children to take Christmas shopping this holiday season in its Christmas With a Cop program, which is 10-years strong.

The Mt. Juliet Police Christmas With a Cop program focuses on assisting families in need for the holidays by inviting children and families in the community to shop with a Mt. Juliet Police Officer for gifts for themselves and loved ones. For one night, children and families are given undivided positive attention, making them feel special in a way many of them have not previously experienced. The program is funded through donations from fundraising events, local businesses, and community members, as well as funds from the Mt. Juliet Police Department.

Large donors to this year’s Christmas With a Cop include: Team Magic, Inc., Busy Bee Heating & Air Conditioning, Kiwanis Club of Mt. Juliet, Wilson Bank & Trust employees, Audra Burris, and Ruth Thorsett. Under Armour provided $2000 worth of clothing for the children.

This year, Walmart will host Christmas With a Cop on December 17, 2015, resulting in more than 30 children receiving much needed relief from the financial worry the Christmas season may bring. Following the shopping event, the children and their families are invited to dinner at Jonathan’s Grille in Mt. Juliet.

The media is welcome to cover this event. Media outlets, who cannot cover this event, will also have access to video and photos that will be uploaded to a website. Those wanting access to the video and photos should contact Lt. Chandler for the secure link.
