DASH CAM VIDEO RELEASED: Felon Leads Officers on Pursuit in Stolen Car While in Possession of a Stolen Handgun and Drugs After Shoplifting

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – A man is in jail after shoplifting and leading police on a pursuit in a stolen car while in possession of a stolen handgun, marijuana, and pills. Around 4:17 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 officers arrived at Walmart, located at 300 Pleasant Grove, to investigate a shoplifting in-progress where a male suspect was stuffing clothing under the clothes he was wearing. Upon arrival, officers attempted to stop the suspect’s car that was fleeing the scene. Officers were immediately alerted on their computer system that the car was stolen, and they continued to purse the car after it blew out both driver-side tires while crossing a raised median in an attempt to get away.

The pursuit continued until the car became disabled on Interstate 40 West near the 223 mile-marker. Once the car became disabled, the driver, and only occupant of the car, jumped out and ran. He jumped the center dividing wall, ran across eastbound lanes, and into a wood line. Officers quickly apprehended the suspect, who was identified as 25-year-old Cedric Hayes of Hermitage, Tenn.

Two adult females and three children were left behind by Hayes at Walmart, but Hayes is the only one being charged at this time.
